Video-rich applications as part of the HR Transformation

Yesterday, I came across an article written by John Sumser on HR Transformation. His blog entry was entitled “The HR Transformation is Underway”. In this article, he spoke of the 21st century HR tools – Data, Analysis and Visualization. He ended with this interesting note:

“Just as the first generation of HR software is reaching functional maturity, a new set of pressures are emerging that will drive a change in HR’s focus. It’s going to get interesting.”

As a content solutions company offering video-rich applications, we have varied solutions that can be used by any department or function within the organization. But we often find ourselves speaking to people from HR, it seemed to us as though HR is in that crossroad of looking for alternative solutions to problems they have been facing for quite sometime (and been trying to solve using the same formula over and over again) as well as new challenges brought about by a changing workforce. Over the course of time and countless briefings and intake, we’ve seen patterns.

Because of the war for talent, employers are looking for alternative ways of attracting potential employees. They are exploring employer brand building initiatives now more than ever. In the past your only source of information on a company is their website or a friend who works there or knows someone who works there, now you have social networking sites. Before, written text was enough and reading was how you get your information about a company, now videos are the most engaging way of delivering a brand message.

In the area of training – what was once just face-to-face training, you would now see a proliferation of e-learning platforms and blended learning techniques. Videos were once used just to enhance the learning experience, now there are stand alone video-rich applications for training whether for facilitated or self-paced learning.

In HR communications – from postings on the wall, to email channels, to intranet, to again postings on the wall (the online wall).  Written message from the CEO were once cascaded via email or through meetings, now we have 1-2 minute video of him addressing the employees that can be accessed through the intranet, anywhere, anytime and in what ever device you have.

These are just a few of the changes I have seen in HR in the last 10 years so. As John Sumser said, we can expect continued transformation in this space. I can’t wait to see the next frontier.

Note:
